The works of Professor Yrjö Kukkapuro are characteristically precise in their form and shape and are defined by the measured use of intricate details. Throughout the years, Kukkapuro has always been interested in the human form and its natural disposition. He has worked as a lead designer for Haimi Oy, Lepokalusto Oy, and Avarte Oy. He is known as an interior designer as well as a staunch supporter and collaborator of the Guild of Architecture in Finland. As such, nearly every Finn has sat at least once on a chair designed by him, for example, in a bank, a theatre, an auditorium or a hospital. Kukkapuro has been working as a freelance designer since the 1950s and much of the furniture he designed at the beginning of his career is still in production. His first series Moderno (1958-60’s) included seven different kinds of upholstered easy chairs.
